When it comes to deck building and home repairs I learned the hard way from some one elses work. I have repaired many many many decks and home issues over the years. Nearly every time the client blamed poor craftsmanship, and while that can at times be the case more often than not there were other reasons. An obstacle the carpenter simply did not have an alternative to, and a lack of building science knowledge that is ever changing. Or simply something that was completely unforeseen and with the benefit of hindsight and desire to do some investigation and prevention when doing the repairs I learned decades worth of knowledge in a short time.
